In the broader context of the 1970s, the Boston Latin School community reflects on the journey of the first classes of girls admitted to America's first public school in 1972.
At BLS, public declamation was part of the earliest classical tradition from the colonial days. It was discontinued for a short time and revived in the mid 1800's. This unique BLS tradition has been with us ever since. Students participants typically prepare four times each year and compete to earn a place in this final competition each spring, usually during Reunion Weekend as we welcome the return of our alumni. This year former declaimers from our alumni ranks volunteered to serve as judges remotely. We look forward to an in-person return to public declamation next school year.
This final installment of the BLS student vlog (video blog) series features two members of Class I, Ruth and Xiangan, as they reflect on this extraordinary year at Latin School. Their excitement is contagious, their gratitude is sincere, and their futures are bright! We wish them the very best on their next journey.
