Welcome to BLS Science! The Boston Latin School Science Department is committed to excellence in science education. We enhance classroom experiences through technology, guided inquiry, hands on activities, experimentation and our incredible partnerships with Boston Children's Hospital and the Zon Laboratory, Harvard MEDScience and a variety of other higher education and community organizations. The BLS Science Department is divided into five disciplines: Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Environmental Science. Students follow a standard progression through introductory and upper level courses in these disciplines.
Every BLS student must take a total of three years of a science and all courses include a laboratory component. It is STRONGLY recommended that students take one year each of biology, chemistry and physics. Our faculty members each bring personal interests and expertise to their teaching. The department is guided by state and national standards. Student Resources The Science Opportunities page contains information on extracurricular opportunities. The Science Project page contains everything you need to know about how to complete a science project and compete in the City, State and International Fairs.
